澳洲防長馬利士表示，澳洲和日本將尋求機會進行「更具複雜度」的聯合軍事演習。今次會議是日本和澳洲在10月簽訂安全協議之後舉行，兩國同意分享情報並強化防務合作，以對抗中國的軍事崛起。澳洲防長更在美國華府高層安全會議，公開表示希望日本加入三方軍事輪調。澳日會議後發表聲明，他們將尋求一連串機會，使澳日兩國軍方能密切合作，進行更高階及具複雜度的軍演。
